TVHS Dance auditions for the 2024-2025 school year will be held during the week of April 8th.
In order to be eligible to audition, students must complete the audition packet no later than midnight on Sunday, April 7th. Upon completion of the packet, students will receive the link to sign up for an audition time.
Additionally, students who sign up to audition (or a parent/guardian) must attend a mandatory Zoom meeting at 7 PM on Monday, April 8th, to learn about the audition process as well as changes for the program next year. Only students (or students whose parent/guardian) who attend the meeting will be eligible to audition. In other words, if you or your parent/guardian do(es) not attend the meeting, you will not be allowed to audition. No exceptions.
The first round of auditions will be held in person on Thursday, April 11th, and Friday, April 12th, in the TVHS Dance Room (room 1703). After completing the audition packet, dancers will know whether they need to attend on Thursday or on Friday. Dancers will not need to attend both days.
In preparing for the audition, students will self-select the level for which they want to audition, based on their ability to execute the technique combinations associated with that level. Click the links below to view the technique combinations for each level:
If you are auditioning for one of the co-ed teams (Ignite, Vitality, or Alliance), you will be expected to do the following:
Perform all of the technique combinations for your specific level:
Hip hop tricks*
Kicks & legs
Leaps & jumps
Turns
Learn and perform the hip hop choreography, which will be emailed to you 2 days in advance at 6 PM (Tuesday, April 9th, at 6 PM if you are auditioning on Thursday, April 11th, or Wednesday, April 10th, at 6 PM if you are auditioning on Friday, April 12th). You will need to learn the choreography on your own.
Level 3 - Alliance / Advanced Dance ONLY - Perform 30 seconds of solo improv to a random song
You will perform the technique combinations and the hip hop choreography for your audition, along with a small group of other dancers who sign up for the same audition level. *Boys team will only need to do the hip hop tricks plus the hip hop choreography
Final placements will be posted no later than 9 PM on Monday, April 15th. Students who audition and are placed on a dance team will also be placed in the corresponding dance course as one of their 6 periods during the school day for the 2024-2025 school year. Before deciding to audition, you need to make sure you are willing to be part of the Dance Program for the entire school year, including giving up a class period in order to be placed in a dance class. You also need to make sure you are willing to put in the time and energy both in and out of class to work on your dance technique, perfect choreography, and prepare for performances.
All dancers who are interested in auditioning need to do the following:
Complete the TVHS Dance Audition Packet online no later than midnight on Sunday, April 7th (It will probably take you around 30 minutes to complete.) You will need the following to complete the packet:
Screenshot of attendance from Infinite Campus (or other platform) from August 2023-March 2024 showing the total number of absences in all periods
Current transcript
Letter of recommendation from a current academic teacher OR a screenshot of an email from a teacher agreeing to fill out the reference form (linked here)
After completing the packet, use the link at the end to sign up for an audition time slot
Attend the mandatory Zoom meeting on Monday, April 8th, at 7:15 PM. Zoom link will be emailed at 3 PM on the 8th to the student and parent addresses listed in the audition packet.
Team Placement Reminder After auditions, team placement is not up for discussion or debate. By agreeing to audition for the TVHS Dance Program, you agree to be placed on the team into which you score and the judges see as the best fit. Judges will be scoring performance quality/showmanship/style, technique, correct execution of movement, knowledge of dance material, and appearance. Additionally, attendance records, grade reports, and the dance questions filled out by the applicants will factor into scores and placement. All team placement is conditional upon a dancer's ability to pass a physical exam and academic eligibility. Any student who does not meet these requirements will be removed from their team prior to the start of next school year.
Audition Tips and Reminders
Make sure you set aside time to learn the choreography and feel confident in the choreography.
Give yourself time to prepare on the day of your audition.
Make sure you look professional (all black) with hair pulled cleanly back and out of your face, and come ready to dance, including the proper footwear! Please bring tennis shoes and turners, jazz shoes, or socks.
Show the judges what you can do and not what you can't do!
If you sign up to audition on the first day, do not bother teaching someone on another day the choreography you learned. They will be learning completely different choreography and using different music than you did.
